I think backyard weddings are something that has been misconstrued. Backyard weddings don’t have to be small or simple affairs. You can absolutely have a lavish wedding in the comfort of a space that you know and love. This couple chose to have their wedding on a family member’s property in Alexandria, MN and their reception was held in a shed/garage. While I know that probably doesn’t sound appealing, it was one of the most fun and laid back weddings that I have ever been to.
These two, let me tell ya. Kristin & Tylor have been the easiest clients I’ve ever worked with, from day one. About 3 days before their wedding, I had my wisdom teeth removed and I still showed up to photograph their wedding. I was in a tremendous amount of pain, but I knew it was a simple, backyard wedding so I knew I could make it through the day. It definitely felt like the pain was getting worse as the day went on, but Kristin was constantly checking in with me to ensure that I was okay. I found out 2 days later that I was in so much pain because I had a dry socket.
And ON HER WEDDING DAY, Kristin went out of her way to make me mac & cheese so I could eat something at dinner. She also made sure they had smoothie supplies on hand in case I didn’t want the mac & cheese. BRIDE OF THE YEAR!!!! I couldn’t believe how thoughtful she was all day long. There were ice packs readily accessible to me all day, and I left feeling so much pain but my heart was just so thankful. Kristin and Tylor relished alone time after the ceremony and I made sure it happened for them. Their reception was full of dancing and laughter.
Looking at these photos, you’d never know this was a backyard wedding. The elegance of it all still just astounds me and I’m so excited to share it with you here.
