Minneopa Falls is one of the most visited places in Mankato. Naturally, I wanted to do an engagement session at the falls because I’d never gotten to. Kristin + Tylor drove from North Dakota to have their photos captured here and they were so incredible!
Let me just start by saying that Minneopa Falls is one of the worst spots for engagement photos in Mankato. The light there is just terrible! You’ve got the trees on one side, ruining that perfect golden hour glow, or you’re down by the falls, which gets super dark. Plus in the fall it’s usually packed, so hitting all the best spots is a challenge. But we made it work! And, even though the light is terrible, I’d go back again in a heartbeat.
I think Minneopa Falls is one of the forgotten falls in Minnesota. It’s well-known by locals, but most people would probably choose Minnehaha Falls for their engagement session instead. I think Minneopa falls is beautiful, even when the river is low, and honestly, I’m glad it’s kind of forgotten about. Mankato is growing so rapidly that it’s nice to have one tiny piece of paradise to ourselves, don’t you think?
I think that Kristin & Tylor couldn’t have chosen a better day or location for their engagement photos. I mean, the glow we were able to get behind them could not have been more perfect. It didn’t last long, but I’m glad I was able to capture it for a few minutes. Going down closer to the falls, the water was super low, which meant that we got to skip around on rocks and take lots of dramatic shots of the two of them. Minneopa Falls did not disappoint us on this day.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Minneopa Falls. Since 2019 to be exact. But if there’s one thing I can say, this engagement session was so worth fighting the light and the people around us (although you wouldn’t even know it was busy if you look at their images). Cheers to K + T!
